Of course, it is very difficult to hit upon the reason for the tots suffering at nighttime unless your child speaks it out that she had nightmare.

Lots of grounds may be there for a child to awake in between her sleep during night and stay upset. Some tots may yearn for comfort when they get up in the night as they don’t know to calm themselves and get back into their dreamy world. The reason for the destruction of their sleep may also be due to illness or they may feel uncomfortable in their bed. If the kid wakes up from her bed suddenly and starts crying, if she appears to be scared or if she is clingy or if she is not able to get into her sleep back she might have had nightmare. Normally, this happens at the ultimate night when dream will not crop up.

Perhaps, you must not get confused with nightmares and night terrors. Kids who go through night terrors get into sleep quickly and have deep dreamless state of sleep, but they may be vastly nervous and finds tough to console. After sometime they get back into their sound snoozing and they don’t remember anything that happened at night.

What is the reason for the happening of nightmares?

Nightmares of your kid is the cause of the happening before their bedtime, for example, she might have listened to story that frightened her very much or she might have watched some upsetting TV show.

There are also possibilities for stress to show the way for nightmares. Even bedtime may also form to the reason for stress, particularly for the kids who possess partition anxiety. Being unhealthy or separated from her lovable parent for considerably long period may also form the reason for stress of the tots.

What is the way to help the tot following the nightmare?

Get hold of your kid when she weep, physical encouragement is significant, for this reason hug her and rub her until she gets settle down. Get her most loved toy or stuffed animal near her and check twice that you had switched on the night lamp. In case, if you carry your child to your bed, you are just creating the habit that could not be easily forgotten by your tot.

Make an exchange of idea about nightmare with your child if she is big enough and you should remember that it is not the reality and only dream.

What forms to be the normal sleep deeds for a tot?

Scores of the parents have the same opinion that most enjoyable tot sleep peacefully. However, tots may perform lots of things that seem to be strange and some time even alarms you when they sleep. Loads of children tend to be normal and they don’t give trouble in this aspect, but there are children who must be subjected to check by the doctors.

Snoring as well as mouth breathing:

Supposing if your tot snores rarely or make snoring like sounds or inhales through mouth, the condition is not difficult to be worried. Particularly, if she snores with rhythm steadily you need not be bothered because lots of children snore due to cold, stuffy nose or allergies.

When you believe that the reason for her snore is due to stuffy nose, you could attempt humidifier or vaporizer to get her breathing more easy and comfortable. In case, your child encompass pet allergies, let her bedroom be free of darlings and it forms to be the most important step you must take to help your child.

However, if your tot snores with unusual loudness, silence between breaths, finds hard to inhale or struggles when she struggles to breathe it might be something solemn sleep chaos and it is recognized to be the sleep apnea. Typically, the widespread origin of sleep apnea regarding kids is enlarged adenoids or tonsils (the glands found in the region of throat simply at the back of nose). Some other reasons take in, overweight and possessing and certain facial uniqueness like moving back chin as well as cleft palate.

Usually, sleep apnea takes its elevated position when the tot is between three and six months, as in this stage adenoids and tonsils will be enlarged when compared to the normal sized airway that are found in children. In addition she appears to be irritable and cranky, and she has chances for incurring behavior problems.

When you suspect that your tot suffers sleep apnea, inform it to your doctor so that he may perform certain tests and suggest to the nose, ear and throat specialist or to the sleep expert in order to judge your tot’s breathing.

If the sleep apnea of your tot is caused due overweight, your doctor may help you in adjusting her diet.

Sweating:

Few toddlers sweat a lot while they enter their deepest sleep at night and they end up with soaking wet. Sweating could also some times be the indication of the sleep apnea and nothing is there to worry if there is nocturnal perspiration.

Normally, deep sleep must provide your tot the good benefits of sleep to your toddler. When there is deep sleep the body will restore itself and get prepared for the next fresh day. So you need not worry about sweating, but make sure that she is comfort all through the night. Make her to sleep in soft cotton garments and make the room to be cool.

Perhaps, if the toddler also snores or pauses while breathing in her sleep along with sweating, have a talk with your doctor and get rid of this sleep apnea.

Breaks in between breathing:

You could view the change in rhythm while your toddler breathes in her sleep. The breathing may be very quick for sometime, then it may become very slow and then break for nearly fifteen seconds just before take up again for normal breathing practice.

Breathing pauses along with snorting and snoring is regarded as the symptom for sleep apnea. However, if a child pause rarely during her sleep it may also be completely normal. Some kids also sigh when they sleep and it appears as if they have stopped breathing just for short period and these sighs could also be regarded as perfectly normal.

Banging and rocking:

Banging head and rocking the body are regarded as the normal behaviors of toddlers, the movements seem to be rhythmic for them and induce them to sleep. In the same way kids also twirl their hair and suck their thumb to get into sleep.

Some kids band or rock their head in order to get them distracted from pain, for example ear pain. This attitude of the kids starts normally when they are in their primary year and ends when they reach three or four year.

Try to give less importance for these activities, in case, if your kid understands that you are making attempt to end her banging or rocking, she undertakes it to be a great challenge and stick with it. Otherwise, the attention may also encourage these behaviors.

When your child rocks vigorously or loudly, just move the bed or crib away from wall so that she does not get hurt. Check with the bolts and screws of the bed and crib regularly so that she could not get it loose. Also keep a mattress upon the ground if she is in her bed.

A peaceful ritual during the bedtime like warm bathing, story, cuddling or gentle backrub will help her to chill out without rocking.

When the kid establishes banging or rocking for the 1st time next to their eighteen months or show signs of the same behaviors even at the day time and if it continues even after she reaches four years, take this matter to your physician. Head banging could be linked with disorders of development like autism.

Unusual sleeping posture:

Lots of toddlers becomes a restless sleepers, they change their position various times at night. Some of the toddlers have their favorite sleeping postures and they get settled in it for long period when others leave the place.

Lots of tots like to sleep on their sides or they like to splay out the back like that of the starfish, some like to curl like a ball.

There are two postures that show the sign for problem. In case, if your tot sleeps just by hanging her head down from her bed or if she raise her head over the stuffed animal and snooze, it denotes that your kid is under sleep apnea, according to the view of the sleep specialist Jodi Mindell. Normally, children practice these postures to stay open their airway while they sleep.

As any posture of sleeping is not a dangerous one, do not compel your tot to change it, let her sleep as she likes even if it appears to be uncomfortable for you. However, if you believe that your tot is suffering sleep apnea, take this subject to your doctor and he would advice you on this.

Teeth grinding:

Usually, there are various reasons for your tot to grind her teeth and it may include anxiety, tension or pain (teeth pain or earache). Pinworms and allergies can also be the cause. In many of the cases grinding the teeth do not create problem and without difficulty your kid will come out of the pattern with out taking any steps by you. You make an effort to sooth your tot before going to bed by giving a bath by soaking her in the container and giving her some extra cuddling.

Sleepwalking:

Your child may walk while she is sleeping, but it may look, as if she is awake, but actually she is not. She may keep her eyes open, but her face may look bare. Furthermore she may take on activities like playing or dressing.

Bullying behavior is one of the common situations in the school. Bullying is usually considered as the part of growing up. However, it is primarily an early kind of violent behavior and aggressiveness. In fact, some statistic shows that four out of ten children who bully might have criminal record before they reach 30 years old.

Bullies usually cause serious problems that families, neighbors and school ignore. Some of the common behaviors of bullies are threatening, insulting, kicking, shoving, teasing at the bus, taking the child’s money or lunch. Anxiety and fear are some of the common effects of bullying in the children. In some case, victim tends to carry protection and even commit more aggressive activity.

A Word About the Victim

Even though everyone could be the target of this behavior, the victim usually singled out for the reason of the child’s psychological traits more than their physical traits. A typical victim of bullying is likely to be sensitive, shy, insecure or anxious. Additionally, some children are being bullied because of their physical features like being physically small, overweight or have a disability or they belong to a certain faith or religion, which makes them differ from others.

A Word About the Bully

Some of the traits of bullies are expressive, active, aggressive and outgoing. In order for them to express themselves they will openly harass a child that is weak in personality. This type of bully tends to refuse rules and regulations. By this way they can achieve a certain feeling of security and superiority. Other types of bullies are manipulative and more reserved. It means they don’t want to be known as tormentors or harassers. By this they tend to manipulate a person without its knowing. They can do these by discretely pretending, manipulating and cunning.

Even though there are two types of bullies in general most bullies have common characteristics and these are the following:

they are more apprehensive regarding their own pleasure

wants to have power over someone

willing to abuse and use others in order for them to get they want

may feel pain inside, maybe for their individual shortcomings

they don’t entertain other people’s perspective, they just want theirs

What You Can Do

As much as possible talk and listen to your children. It would be nice to encourage them to discuss about social events, school, their classmates and others. Walk or ride with them to and from the school in order for you to recognize or identify any problem that they may have.

When your child is complaining about bullying, don’t ignore it instead listen to so that you can address the problem to the school. As you know some children are ashamed or afraid to discuss it to somebody, so when they complain pay attention to it.

Observe for any symptoms that they might be a bullying victim, like asking extra supplies or money, tom clothes, sudden drop of grades and withdrawal.

If you think that your child is a victim of bullies, tell the school or a certain organization that can help you monitor your children and ensuring their safety as well.

Coordinate with other parents in the school, so that you can ensure that all the children in the neighborhood are watched closely to and from their school.

As parents, you must not bully your kids whether it is physical or verbal abuse. You can use nonphysical discipline by explaining to them their faults or mistake, instead of yelling, ridiculing or ignoring them when they are not acting appropriately.

Encourage your children to learn social skills, so that they can make friends. A resourceful, confident and with friends are not prone to be bullied or bully other as well.

When they did something good to others, praise them. Let them know that it is good to be kind to others than being bad.

Teach your children some ways to solve arguments without aggressive actions and words. You can also help them protect themselves like teach them how to walk confidently and be vigilant with their environment and know how to stand up and reason out.

When having a bonding together such as going to movie or park, playing games, reading aloud or watching TV, you can also offer opportunities for you to have a conversation regarding bullying.

Identify that bullies do this actions because of the feeling of loneliness, anger or insecurity. In the event that your child is a bully, seek immediate help from the school, organization or child psychologist.

Pediatrics is the branch of medicine dealing with diagnosis and treatment of ailments in infants, young children, teenagers and complete families. A pediatrician not only treats children or families, he also advises them about care to be taken for a particular disease or generally in daily life. For instance, a pediatrician would advise new mother about the vaccinations that the infant needs and precautions to be taken for healthy growth.

A pediatrician is required to get a degree from medical school followed by a three year residency program. Pediatricians may opt to specialize in pediatric allergy, immunology or neonatal medicine.

It is better to choose a good pediatrician for your children. Consult your family and friends about the pediatrician you are planning to see. You may even check the local list of pediatricians and choose the one based on qualifications and experience. Make sure you meet the pediatrician before you decide to take your children for consultation. Ask questions to make sure that he is the right person to see your kids. Kids can get intimidated by an unpleasant personality, see that the pediatrician has a pleasant disposition. The pediatrician must deal with your children gently; this will ensure that your kids are comfortable and able to tell their problem in detail. The interiors of the clinic itself would speak volumes about the doctor; see that the clinic is appropriately decorated for kids, with pleasant paintings and games. Basically the place should have a friendly, inviting atmosphere.

It is important that you take your pre-teen kid to a doctor of same gender; a young girl will be more comfortable talking about her problem to a female doctor. Apart from this check the pediatrician’s emergency services and timings. Ask about the charges for emergency services. Check with your medical insurance provider the details of emergency charges covered. Also check if pediatrician is available after school hours, most pediatricians have their clinics open in the evening to facilitate check-ups for school going kids and when both parents are working.

It is very important to check the credentials of a pediatrician before you take your children for a check-up. Make sure that the pediatrician is qualified, board certified and holds a license to practice. He must have a gentle, caring nature and must develop a rapport with your children. A good pediatrician would not only cure your child, he will also ensure good health and a happy family.

There are several food items that you must avoid eating just before bedtime, however, there are certain food groups that help in healthy growth of teeth, and in strengthening them. Some of them are mentioned below.

Many foods help in growth and strengthening of teeth, some even help in whitening your teeth. A diet rich in fiber, such as carrots, watermelons, pears, radish and celery, helps in cleaning your teeth, massaging them and removing plaque. Another great add-on is milk, which helps in keeping the teeth white and strong. Milk is rich in calcium and helps in growth of bones and teeth. It also prevents bacterial growth in your mouth. A glass of milk every morning would ensure healthy white teeth for a lifetime.

Foods that whiten your teeth also include fruits and vegetable containing citric acid. These include orange peels, lemon juice and strawberries among others. Other than this, baking soda also acts as a cleaning agent and teeth whitener. However, it’s best to prevent teeth discoloration by avoiding beverages such as coffee, tea, red wine and aerated drinks like colas. Most people think drinking by straw would reduce the risk; however, it is better to have such drinks in limited quantity.

Foods such as citrus fruits, though nutritious, are rich in acids that may cause the enamel to weaken. It is important to rinse your mouth with water after having citrus fruits.

Apart from this, drinking ample amount of water also helps keep the gums hydrated and healthy. In case it’s not possible to brush your teeth after a meal, massage your teeth with your index finger and rinse thoroughly with water to wash off food particles stuck in your teeth. This would also prevent bad breath caused due to bacterial growth in the mouth.

You ensure healthy teeth and gums for the rest of your life by eating right. It just doesn’t involve avoiding sweets and sticky foods; it also includes having a proper dental care routine. It’s better to take care now then spending money on treatments such as replacement, implants and refill. A healthy diet would definitely ensure a happy smile forever.
